I nearly gave up on trying to find woodworking plans for furniture that were actually created for the average person to comprehend without having to decipher some kind of alien code!
The truth is, I really appreciate the value of putting together wood pieces with your own two hands. The quality is almost always superior, as you can use REAL wood and not treated crap. Not to mention, it’s hundreds - if not thousands of dollars cheaper to build your own furniture pieces! And, of course, there’s the pride element, as well.
I recently saw a chair set at a department store - two nice (but not that nice) wood chairs for a whopping 450 bucks! Are you kidding me? I knew I could make these very same chairs for under $100 in supplies and a few hours of labor… with the right plans!
Well, guess what. I got the right plans. I spent $115 in materials (close enough, right?). I took about a day and a half of my time to do it… and my chairs were much cooler than the ones I saw at the department store. Better quality, too!
So I may already know the question you’re most likely asking. Where the heck did I find the right furniture woodworking plans to make this happen? Well, I’ll tell you where I didn’t find them. I didn’t find them in the land of “Soon Enough!”
Expensive catalogues and free sample plans came my way, but these woodworking plans for furniture practically required me to go get my PhD in physics just to understand the freakin’ things. I mean, shouldn’t it be as easy as “cut it like this, put it together like this, sand it, pat yourself on the back?”
I thought so. That’s what I had personally been searching for, anyway. Something profoundly effective, but so simple that a preschooler could figure it out.
What I found was maybe a little more complex than that, but not much more.
The resource I finally found was actually online. It’s a one-time fee (it’s tiny… like 45 bucks or so) membership database of thousands upon thousands upon thousands of professional quality woodworking plans - that you don’t have to be a professional woodworker to understand!
If you’re wanting some good furniture woodworking plans that are easy to understand and provide a ton of variety, the resource I personally found for myself definitely over-delivers. I ended up with 14,000 (yes, that’s fourteen thousand) woodworking plans that range from practical to extravagant!
I don’t know if I’ll be making a pool table, gazebo, or shed (all of which I now have plans for!) anytime in the very near future, but I’ve got plans to build some nice patio furniture, cabinets, tables, chairs, baby furniture… heck, I may even try to build myself a custom-made guitar! I found plans for all this stuff, and much more. Did I mention… fourteen thousand woodworking plans?
I’ll never get bored. Neither will you.
